The first thing I learned as an uncle

Is that people congratulate you for something you have absolutely no control over.

Curious. Call me old-fashioned, but I’d always thought congratulating someone was reserved for when they achieve something which presumably they have some level of control over? Then again, I once replied “good thanks, how are you?” when asked to show ID at a bar.
