Postures and prompts

Growing up as an awkward, gangly teen my mum would say to me “head up, shoulders back”.

She provided prompts to help me get a better posture.

In doing so she recognised that developing a posture is an infinite practice with no end point.

So too are the postures we seek to develop as leaders, such as a posture of empathy or generosity.

In thinking about these postures, it’s worth noodling on what prompts we might use.

For empathy it might be: ask questions and hold space.

For generosity it might be: call out good in others.

In short, consider: what posture am I seeking to cultivate? What prompts will I use to practice this posture?
